Three Folks Pictures has just secured what all independently-produced films hope for, but very few actually get: theatrical distribution in the United Sates. Phase 4 Films has acquired all North American rights to Brotherhood, the Three Folks Pictures production that won the Audience Award at this year’s South By Southwest Film Festival.

Berry Meyerowitz, President & CEO of Phase 4 Films, announced the acquisition in Cannes saying, “There is a reason that this was one of the most talked about films at this year’s SXSW film festival. Will Canon is an incredibly talented filmmaker on the rise and BROTHERHOOD marks an audacious and gripping feature debut. Phase 4 is proud to be able to take this film to audiences across the country.”

The President of Three Folks Pictures Will Canon added, “It’s great that BROTHERHOOD has a home with Phase 4. They have exciting ideas that are perfect for the film, and I look forward to partnering with them in the coming months.”

BROTHERHOOD tells the story of college freshman Adam Buckley (Morgan) who finds himself blindfolded in the back of a van facing the fact that he must rob a convenience store as the final step of initiation into the Sigma Zeta Chi fraternity. When things go horribly wrong, Adam realizes he is on his own and up against the very “brotherhood” he sought to be a part of.

The deal for BROTHERHOOD was negotiated by Larry Greenberg, Phase 4 Films’ SVP of Acquisitions, with Nate Bolotin at XYZ FILMS and Iwashina at Parlay Media on behalf of the filmmakers. Cinema Management Group is selling foreign rights.

In the entertainment industry there are two trade papers that people rely on for information, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Those papers are to the entertainment industry what the Wall Street Journal is to the financial world.

So when we at Three Folks Pictures heard that Variety’s Joe Leydon was at the second screening of Brotherhood at SXSW and was likely to review the film, it brought about both excitement and trepidation. A good review from Variety can mean a lot of things, not least of which is that everyone in the industry reads a tastemaker’s glowing review and people take notice.

Conversely, if you get a bad review, everyone in the industry reads a not-so-glowing review, and people take notice. The team from Three Folks was all gathered for a filmmaker reception in Austin when we got word that the Variety review was out. And the review wasn’t good, it was GREAT.

In today’s media culture where word can spread across the globe instantaneously, the buzz created by such a glowing Variety review has sent Brotherhood in an even more positive direction. Read the entire Variety review here.

The updated Three Folks Pictures site has been a long time coming and hopefully worth the wait for those checking in periodically.

Our partners at Three Stream were instrumental in bringing the new project to life. We are featuring our newest video and media content and will be updating the site as projects are completed. We wanted a site that was simple for folks to navigate as well as clean and sharp in presentation. We hope that those stopping by will be able to familiarize themselves with Three Folks Pictures and the services we provide as well as be entertained by one of our commercials, videos, and films.

Our projects have run the gambit and we needed a site that is versatile in approach, but also unifies our various projects under one roof. We could not be more excited to launch the site and more thrilled with the work that Three Stream has done to make it a reality.
